Amid a plenary session in the House of Representatives, Leila Benali, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, said that during the months of November and December of 2022, around 8 million Moroccans successfully reduced their electricity consumption.

Benali emphasized a significant decrease in monthly electricity consumption during that period, amounting to an approximate “decrease of 800 gigawatt-hours compared to December 2021.”

Benali announced that the ministry has plans to introduce incentives in the coming months aimed at encouraging more Moroccans to further reduce their electricity consumption practices.

This incentive will be in the form of an ‘energy bonus.’

The authorities will conduct a comparison of energy consumption for end users, for example comparing the usage between November and December 2022 to the same period in 2021. If the consumption is lower, the customer will receive an energy bonus.
