RABAT- Morocco’s Justice and Development Party condemned the invitation it received from the Israeli Communication Office in Rabat to visit Israel and celebrate the anniversary day of the establishment of Israel, stating it represents “the Zionist occupation of Palestine.” The party also lauded the decision by its parliamentary group to refuse to join the Moroccan-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Committee, including rejecting a visit from the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, to Morocco.

The head of the Israeli Communication Office in Rabat extended an invitation to various political parties in Morocco to celebrate the anniversary day of the establishment of Israel.

The move included the parliamentary group of the Islamist party. During the mandate of the PJD, while it was leading the previous government coalition, the establishment of relations between Morocco and Israel occurred.

A communiqué by the Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party, released on Monday, condemned the move, calling the invitation “audacious” and the event a “celebration of the anniversary of the establishment of the occupying entity.”

The PJD stressed it “resents and rejects the audacity of the representative of the Zionist entity in inviting the parliamentary group (of the PJD) to attend what he called a celebration of the anniversary of the establishment of this occupying entity, which represents nothing more than the anniversary of the Nakba and the Zionist occupation of Palestine, including the ongoing displacement of our Palestinian brothers to this day.”

The party further stressed its “principled position rejecting normalization with the Zionist entity.”

It also said it lauded the recent move of its parliamentary group in the parliament to refuse “to become a member of what is called the Moroccan-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Committee,” including the group’s refusal of the visit of the Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana.
