A young Moroccan man, who faced charges of threats, defamation, and slander brought against him by a French citizen, was acquitted last week by a Moroccan court.

This follows a scandal that caused a stir both locally and internationally when the French resident, in a fit of rage, ran over a flock of sheep that were persistently grazing near his property.

The French citizen, living in Plage David, a town approximately 40 kilometers south of Rabat, was previously convicted in 2020 for killing animals without justification. His act, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media platforms, led to his conviction and a fine of 20,000 dirhams, roughly equivalent to $2,000 USD.

The incident took place when the Frenchman, reportedly infuriated by the sheep’s consistent presence near his plot, drove his vehicle into the flock. The young Moroccan who filmed the gruesome scene found himself the target of a lawsuit by the Frenchman after he completed his one-month jail sentence.
