The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to disclose the new host country for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in mid-July, according to Veron Mosengo-Omba, Secretary-General of CAF.

In a recent interview with Canal+ sport, Mosengo-Omba mentioned that the identity of the new host country will be unveiled in the middle of next month.

“We’ve had several countries step forward and apply to host the tournament, including Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Zambia, Benin, and Nigeria,” he stated.

The original plan to uphold the principle of rotation among all geographical regions of Africa has, however, been overshadowed by reality, Mosengo-Omba admitted. This principle, underlining equal chances for all regions to host the prestigious African Nations Cup (CAN), was intended to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

“CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, was highly in favor of promoting fair rotation among regions,” Mosengo-Omba said, “However, out of the 54 African countries, only about five or six have shown the capacity to apply to host the Africa Cup.”

The announcement of the host country for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 has faced multiple delays and postponements.

According to a source within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), who wished to remain anonymous, Morocco’s role as host for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 is practically a foregone conclusion. “It’s just a matter of time. Morocco will host it, God willing,” the source stressed with confident certainty.

Meanwhile, for the 2027 edition, while Algeria is the expected front-runner, they may face a formidable challenge from Senegal.
