Rabat – In a move underlining widespread dissatisfaction among healthcare workers, dozens of nurses and health technicians staged today a protest outside the Ministry of Health in Rabat, Morocco. They demanded the fulfillment of prior promises aimed at enhancing their professional situation. The protest was organized by the Independent Union of Nurses.

The healthcare workers, who provide essential services, called for improved compensation, especially for on-call services. These services often require them to work long hours and on holidays without additional pay. Some have reported that certain healthcare centers are even deducting pay for mandatory rest periods.

Additionally, protesters appealed for the establishment of a supplemental retirement scheme specifically designed for hospital employees. They also asked for the creation of a national body to represent their interests.

The Independent Union of Nurses criticized the Ministry of Health, accusing it of inaction and neglect. The union argued that while the Ministry had been responsive to the demands of other healthcare professionals, such as doctors and administrators, it had ignored the concerns of nurses and technicians.
