A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today in Rabat, between the General Prosecution in Morocco and the Russian Federal Prosecution, aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas related to the work of the General Prosecution.
The MoU, signed by the Attorney General, Hassan Daki, and the Russian Federal Prosecutor, Igor Krasnov, specifies the exchange of expertise, practices, and experiences within their respective prosecutor offices. It also seeks to bolster cooperation on matters related to crime, particularly money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
The MoU also includes the organizing of training programs, expert visit exchanges, and cooperation in investor rights protection. Furthermore, it’s aimed at enhancing cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
On this occasion, Daki presented an overview of Morocco’s experience in judicial independence per the 2011 Constitution. He also reviewed the roles and responsibilities of the General Prosecution at the various courts in the kingdom, in addition to its role in supporting the rule of law and overseeing other judicial professions, prison institutions, and police stations.
On his part, Krasnov confirmed the desire of the Russian Federal Prosecution to develop judicial cooperation relations between the two countries, noting that the signing of this MoU would open promising horizons for the exchange of experiences and best practices in the field of justice.
It’s worth mentioning that Morocco and the Russian Federation have an agreement regarding the extradition of persons sentenced to deprivation of liberty, signed in Casablanca on 06 September 2006.
