The Court of First Instance in Imintanout sentenced the two men who assaulted a few months ago the girls who were reading the Quran in Chichaoua to immediate imprisonment.
The Ministry of Interior stated that each defendant received 5 months of immediate imprisonment and a fine of 200 dirhams each.
The girls, who lost their house during the earthquake, and were seeking solace by reciting the Quran inside their tent were assaulted by two men, who ordered them to stop reading it and physically assaulted them and mishandled the holy book.
The Ministry of Interior revealed as well that the Royal Gendarmerie in Chichaoua Province received a complaint from the parents of the girls, which triggered the authorities to start investigating the matter, following a video circulating massively among Moroccans on various social media platforms.
