The Department of Commerce recently revealed that aviation sector exports soared to 5.8 billion dirhams ($1.57 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2024, achieving a robust 13.7% growth over the same period last year.

According to the department’s latest report on external trade indicators, this significant uptick was fueled by a 20.3% increase in assembly category sales, which reached 3.82 billion dirhams ($1.03 billion USD), and a modest 2.7% rise in the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) sales, totaling 1.95 billion dirhams ($527 million USD).

The report also highlighted a 13.1% surge in automobile exports, which climbed to 38.34 billion dirhams ($10.35 billion USD). This increase was supported by marked sales improvements in manufacturing (up 20.5%), car interior parts and seats (up 19.3%), and electrical wiring (up 6.4%).

Conversely, the electronics and electrical devices sector saw a 5% boost in its exports, amounting to 6 billion dirhams ($1.62 billion USD). This growth is largely due to a 40.2% jump in sales of circuit breakers and electrical circuit conductors, along with a 19.4% rise in the sales of electrical wires and cables.

In contrast, the sectors of other metals, textiles and leather, agriculture and food industry, and phosphates and derivatives experienced declines in their export values. Specifically, exports dropped by 22% to 1.14 billion dirhams ($308 million USD), 3.7% to 11.69 billion dirhams ($3.16 billion USD), 3% to 25.62 billion dirhams ($6.92 billion USD), and 2.3% to 17.63 billion dirhams ($4.76 billion USD), respectively.
