The Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdeljalil highlighted during his participation in a session in the House of Representatives yesterday, that the national plan for the expansion program of the railway network includes the establishment of 3800 kilometers of classic lines, connecting 43 cities by railways instead of the current 23, and extending railway services to 81% Moroccans instead of the current 51% rate.

Abdeljalil stated that the expansion program of the railway network requires massive investments estimated at 400 billion dirhams, half of which will be earmarked for infrastructure projects alone.

According to the Minister, the program also includes projects to link ports and airports with railways.

Regarding the expansion of the high-speed train network, the Minister pointed out two axes in this regard, the Atlantic axis connecting Tangier to Agadir, and the Maghrebian axis aimed at connecting Casablanca to Oujda through Fez, stating that this program requires huge investments, also estimated at 400 billion dirhams, a sum that cannot be covered by ticket revenues.
