According to the leading Moroccan Economy news outlet Leconomiste, Morocco has witnessed a plummeting in fish consumption among its citizens.
As a matter of fact, since the start of year, the consumption of fish among Moroccans plummeted by a 15% ratio. Namely, a consumption of only 210,830 tonnes was witnessed, against 242454.5 tonnes last year.
On another note, Morocco’s fish exports witnessed a steady performance compared to the same period of 2013, with 759,800 tonnes exported.
Though Morocco witnessed a plummeting in fish consumption, the catch value witnessed an increase of 7% compared to last year. The main reason for this “discrepancy” is the relatively-recent increase in fish prices the country has witnessed during the year.
