Moroccan cannabis growers gathered on Saturday in the city of Chaouen to discuss different ways for solving the ongoing issues related to their “particular kind of agriculture” Said the Economist. The meeting was held by the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), which is intending to raise the issue of Moroccan cannabis cultivation in the parliament, for a potential legalization for therapeutic usage.

The meeting brought together around 1500 to 2000 specialized farmers in the cultivation of cannabis in the Rif region, northern part of Morocco. This particular agriculture supports more than 96,000 families in this harsh region.

Morocco is considered the largest producer of cannabis in the world, even before Afghanistan. The production is estimated to 7000 Tonnes, of which 80% gets exported, mainly to Spain and France.
