Tarfaya Wind Parc, Southwest Morocco, has officially produced its first kilowatts, and will be fully operational starting this fall. This parc will be the largest in Africa with more than 130 turbines and a power capacity of 300 megawatts.
This project, in fact, emanates from Morocco’s desire to cover, by 2020, 42% of its energy needs, by relying on renewables.
Regarding Tarfaya Parc, where the work began in late 2012, “88 out of the total 131 turbines are installed” as declared by Mr. Said Mohammed Sebti, Director of the Nareva Energy Pole, the Moroccan company in charge of this project.
With a total cost of 500 million euros, Tarfaya Wind Parc will become the largest in the continent, bypassing the Ethiopian Parc, which has 84 turbines, producing up to 120 MW.
