The international confederation of Oxfam has noted, in its recently released report on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the borders closure between Algeria and Morocco, that the non-integration of Maghreb countries costs $10 billion per year for the Maghrebian countries.
Oxfam pointed out that “an Integrated Maghreb Union would have saved an annual value of $10 billion for the five Maghreb countries’ cumulative economies”.
The international confederation estimated the non-integration cost at 2 to 3% of the annual GDP of each of the countries.
In its closing statement, Oxfam highlighted that “the non-integration of the Maghrebian countries makes their economies less attractive for investments”.
It is worth reminding that Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 organizations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries.
