15 persons were killed and 1362 others were wounded among whom 76 were severely injured in 999 accidents within urban areas in a week (from the 5th to the 11th of May).
According to a released statement by the General Directorate of National Security, the main reasons behind these accidents are attributed to lack of attention to pedestrians, not respecting the right of precedence, excessive speeding, change of lanes without signal, driving under the influence of alcohol and not respecting the stop sign among others.
When it comes to surveillance of traffic, the same source indicates that 41,303 violations were recorded, among which 18,527 were sent to the public prosecutor and 22,776 were paid fines that totalled to a sum of 8,091,925 Dirhams.
