Morocco’s Foreign Minister will be heading today to Palestine for a working visit in order to deliver a message of King Mohammed VI to the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, Moroccan news outlet Le360.ma learned from government sources.

According to said source, Salaheddine Mezouar will seize the occasion to discuss with Mahmoud Abbas the latest developments of the situation in Palestine, following the recent establishment of a truce with Israel. The talks will also revolve around the latest developments of the “Palestinian reconciliation” among Palestine’s political factions, the reconstruction of Gaza and the end of the blockade imposed by Israel on Palestine’s occupied territories.

The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs is also expected to meet Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad al-Maliki, before heading to Jericho (Ariha) and visiting Al-Quds Mosque.

Said source added that Mezouar will be received as well by the Mufti Sheikh Mohamed Hussein and will offer prayers to the late Yasser Arafat in front of the former leader of the Palestinian revolution’s tomb.

Le 360.ma added that “Morocco continually calls the international community, particularly members of the Security Council of the United Nations countries to pressure Israel to start serious negotiations for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, following the 1967 borders plan.”

“Rabat considers that without the creation of a Palestinian state, there will never be peace in the region,” Le 360 added.

“Morocco has been a staunch defender of the Palestinian cause. The Moroccan sovereign has recently decided to send a humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. The Moroccan King, who is as well the president of Al Quds Committee, had recently decided to give a donation of about $US 10 million to the Palestinians following the last onslaught on the Gaza strip,” the French-based outlet closed.
