An Algerian diplomat announced on Monday that the United Arab Emirates has offered to mediate the conflicts between Morocco and Algeria.

According to the same diplomat, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan “proposed, during a phone call with Algerian officials last Thursday, to mediate a resolution to the new Algerian-Moroccan conflict,” which was triggered when an Algerian soldier shot a Moroccan national near the borders between the two countries.

Relations between Algeria and Morocco have been strained in recent days after a Moroccan national came under fire on the border between Morocco and Algeria.

Morocco blamed Algerian soldiers for the gunfire and condemned the act while Algerian authorities denied involvement in the incident.
