Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The secretary general of Al-Istiqlal party (The Independence) Hamid Chabat said that he will resign if Al-Istiqlal does not get the first position in next month’s regional and communal elections.
Hamid Chabat, who was speaking in a party gathering in Rabat, stressed that the various Al-Istiqlal members who elected him as secretary general did so because they believe he can improve the party, including taking it to the first position in the Moroccan political scene.
“If Al-Istiqlal does not get the first place, that means I lost people’s trust. If that happens, I will resign from the general secretariat of the party.”
It is worth reminding that Hamid Chabat is a very controversial personality in the Moroccan political scene and very few people take his words at face value.
Among his most sweeping statements is when urging the Head of the Government, Abdellilah Benkirane, in the Moroccan parliament to clarify his allegiance to, or relation with, ISIS, Nosra, and the Israeli Mossad.
