After the European Union, the American NGO, National Democratic Institute (NDI), has declined the invitation of the Algerian authorities to observe the presidential elections, scheduled on April, 17.

As previously justified by the EU, the NDI reported that it was not invited to observe the Algerian elections ahead of time, so that it could have mobilized the necessary elements to ensure an “Elections Observation” according to the international standards.

“The invitation of the Algerian government came very late, it is impossible now to meet all the conditions for observing these elections. The application of international standards requires the mobilization of the necessary elements;for example, we need to cover a certain percentage of polling stations. Our organization can not recruit enough people in such a short time, to fulfill this end” Said Carin Mirowitz, Director of NDI in Algeria.

After this continuous international declines to observe the upcoming elections, the Algerian government will merely settle for the African Union and the Arab League observation missions, to put some credibility on this election game, rejected by the majority of Algerian politicians.
