In spite of a slight decline, Moroccans still represent the largest foreign community in Spain, with  792,158 individuals estimated to be legally living in the country in the beginning of 2014.

The 2.6% decrease, corresponding to 20,731 individuals, would be mainly due to the Eurozone crisis, which resulted in high levels of unemployment in Spain and compelled many people to seek jobs elsewhere.

Moroccans would therefore constitute 1.6% of Spain’s total population, which is estimated in January 2014 to 46.7 million inhabitants, according to official data.
