The 2014 edition of the “Globalization Index” ranking of the Swiss Economic Research Center (KOF) put Morocco in the 62nd position, far above neighbors Algeria (117th), Tunisia (78th), Egypt (85th ), and Libya(144th).
The KOF index measures the degree of globalization of a specific country taking into consideration three dimensions:
1- The social aspect.
2- The political aspect.
3- The economic aspect.
The political aspect, which is calculated according to the activity of a country on the world political scene, takes into consideration the following dimensions:
1-The activeness of a country’s ambassadors.
2- The country’s active input within international organizations.
3- The country’s participation in peace missions.
The Social and the economic aspects are generated taking into account the movement of capital, goods, and people back and forth across the country’s borders, the access to Internet, as well as the weight of foreign investment by GDP.
It is worth adding that the KOF index does not take directly into account a country’s stability factor.
