Since its establishment, the Moroccan government is yet to implement the law that bans smoking in public spaces.

So far the government has failed in this attempt, knowing the devastating damages of smoking: 90% of lung cancers and 42% of respiratory diseases are caused by smoking.

This puts the public’s health into jeopardy, since 30% of people in Morocco smoke and 60% are considered second hand smokers.

Due to the Ministry of health’s lack of initiative to implement this law, which dates back to 2008, El Houssaine Louardi says he is willing to support a bill proposed for this purpose by the Socialist Group in the House of Councillors.
