Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Mansour Sentenced to 15 years by Egypt’s Criminal Court.

The leader of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood organization, Mohamed Baltagi, was sentenced Saturday, October 11, to 15 years in jail by the Criminal Court of Cairo. Baltagi is accused of torturing a lawyer during the protests that ousted the back-then President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

The same court issued a verdict of 15 years against the preacher Safwat Hijazi, the former member of the Party for Freedom and Justice, as well as the same sentence for the brotherhood member Hazem Farouk.

Al Jazeera’s well-known anchor Ahmed Mansour received a 15-year-sentence as well.

Many Human Rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, already echoed their voices in regards to the aforementioned sentences, calling them “a masquerade of humility to democracy and to the the rule of law.”
