Agourai, MoroccoThere is no nation in current-day-history that has suffered from oppression, persecution and injustice more than Palestine, the beautiful and sacred land of all Muslims around the world. Palestine is the land that hosts Al-Aqsa Masjid, one of the three holiest places for Muslims, the mosque that the well-known Muslim caliph Umar Ibn Al Khattab himself renovated.

The last horrendous terror on Gaza broke out insensibly and the carnage took place during Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan, a period where Muslims all around the globe involve extensively in worship. At that time, the Israeli forces seized the occasion to invade and shell Gaza with countless missiles and heavy bombs for no salient reason but to weaken and demilitarize the legitimate voice of the Palestinians, Hamas. In the post-gaze of the carnage, the one legitimately wonders if Israel did achieve something out of this terror pholly. Did it demilitarize Hamas as Benjamen Netanyaho kept bragging about before the triggering of the war? The answer is of course a NO. Israel achieved nothing but killing innocent people, including around 500 kids. What they achieved is destroying houses, hospitals, Mosques, universities, schools, and various United Nations shelter spaces. They killed more than 2310 citizens and left more than 10,626 others injured, just to name a few.

We learned from history that once upon a time, there existed a great man who showed real and long-lasting struggle for Palestine. Salaheddine Al-Ayoubi, well-known in the Western world as Saladin, liberated Jerusalem and other parts of Palestine after 88 years of occupation by crusaders. The man was a great leader who fought for the sake of the holy land. Palestinians have a long history of resistance and went through, since the dawn of time, various forms of injustice, including occupation, expulsion, and ethnic cleansing. Much of the way Palestinians deal with injustice is inspiring. They have shown determination and steadfastness, not to mention a matchless attachment to their land, to their cultural and to their social heritage. Palestinians have shown the world on the last Israeli carnage their ingenuity and an unparalleled ability to survive under the harrow circumstances and conditions Israel has imposed upon them.

Much has been written in world literature regarding the Palestinian conflict,  especially by eminent intellectuals and activists around the world. Mehdi Al-Mandjra, a well-known Moroccan polymath and futurologist thinker, said in his book Valeurs des Valeurs that the Arab leaders are the first ones who betrayed the Palestinian issue starting from Jamal Abdenasser to Yasser Arafat. The Moroccan intellectual stressed, all but helter skelter, that Arab rulers do not represent their people and are allies to US and Israeli crimes against Palestinians. Another world renowned intellectual, namely the leading Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Emeritus professor Noam Chomsky, said in his collaborative book with Illan Pappe, Gaza in Crisis, reflections on Israel’s War against Palestinians, that  “the new crimes that the US and Israel were committing in Gaza as 2009 opened do not fit easily into any standard category—except for the category of familiarity”.

With the aforementioned testimonials on board, and taking into account the unparalleled number of deaths and injuries, the destruction of houses, hospitals, Mosques, universities, schools, and United Nations shelter spaces, it is no exaggeration then, to my eyes, to say that the last Israeli terror on Gaza was the most dangerous war against Arabs in the past 8 years. In the wake of this terror, I wondered what did Arabs do do to defend Palestine and, more importantly, the innocent children and women against this genocide?

The answer is that the last acts of terror on Gaza have obviously exposed the powerlessness and weaknesses of the despotic Arab regimes, which are only flexing their muscles against their own people. To the one’s astonishment, the last carnage not only revealed the Arab regimes disunity, but also, and more astounding, it illustrated how some Arab leaders colluded with the Israeli terrorists against Hamas, the legitimate voice of Palestinians. This was the case of the Egyptian and Saudi regimes.

The case of Palestine, and Gaza in particular, is an Egyptian national responsibility in the first place, regardless of who the ruler is. Now, and after the ethnic cleansing against Gazans, it is prime time to awaken all Arab dictators about this issue. They have to wake up and stop their relations with world criminals and murderers of children, namely U.S. and its allies. They also have to stop their betrayal and start defending the oppressed Palestinians to enable them live in peace and prosperity, just as the people in the Western world do.
