Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- In the wake of a conference organized this week by the Unified Socialist Party (well known under its French acronym PSU), Nabila Mounib, the secretary-general of the PSU, said that “Benkirane’s resistance came very late.”

“Mr. Benkirane’s resistance came at a very late stage,” Mounib stressed.

“He should have worked during the last 5 years on shoring up the institution of the head of government,” Mounib noted.

“He normalized with corruption and he restrained from fighting corruption,” Mounib added.

Nabila Mounib, the first woman to lead a major political party in Morocco, criticized Benkirane for not fighting what she described as “enshrined authoritarianism practices,” further noting that Benkirane “accepted to participate in the political game, and even participated in shoring up and consolidating the authoritarian practices in Morocco.”

“Then he came in the last minute and said ‘I will form the government as I wish,'” Mounib said.

“What he said is important, but he should have fought for this when he was head of government,” Mounib stressed.
