Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The US military did not rule out the possibility that the novel coronavirus was created in a laboratory, something that could fan more speculation and conspiracy theories about its origins.
US Army General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a news briefing that “there’s a lot of rumor and speculation in a wide variety of media, the blog sites, etc. It should be no surprise to you that we’ve taken a keen interest in that and we’ve had a lot of intelligence take a hard look at that.”
“And I would just say, at this point, it’s inconclusive,” Milley said.
The US general believes nevertheless that in terms of evidence, it is more probable that the novel coronavirus was not created in a lab.
“Although the weight of evidence seems to indicate natural. But we don’t know for certain,” Milley stressed.
