47,143 arrested in Morocco for violating “state of health emergency” measures

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Since the start of the state of health emergency in Morocco, 47,143 persons were arrested for ignoring the measures taken by the authorities to curb the COVID-19 outbreak, a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, well-known under its French acronym DGSN, said.

The DSGN noted that in the last 24 hours, 2,940 people have violated the measures, from which 1,692 have been placed in police custody, pending the completion of investigations.

In terms of statistics, Morocco’s industrial hub Casablanca holds the lion’s share with 6,566 arrests.

Morocco’s capital Rabat follows with 6,296 cases.
Kenitra saw 5,084 arrests, while 4308 ones were carried out in Oujda.

As follow, the remaining number of arrests per city, as reported by Morocco’s DSGN:

Marrakech (4,197), Agadir (3,408), Salé (2,995), Meknes (2,404), Beni Mellal (1,836), Fez (1,492), Tetouan (1,576), El Jadida (1,266), Tangier (1,181), Settat (1,146), Ouarzazate (954), Laayoune (775), Errachidia (596), Safi (442), Taza (435) and Al Hoceima (186).
