Morocco: 541 cases of domestic violence amid COVID-19

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- In a communiqué The Moroccan Times received, The Moroccan Federation of Women’s Rights Leagues, well-known under its French acronym FLDF, said its Network Against Violence, Injad, reported 541 cases of domestic violence in Morocco, since the implementation of the lockdown.

Psychological abuse took the lion’s share of cases (48.2%), followed by economic abuse (33%).

Cases of Physical violence, according to Injad, hovered around 12%.

Injad also said a few cases of sexual abuse were reported, without sharing numbers.

Injad noted its counseling hotline received 240 phone calls from 230 women that reported acts of domestic violence during confinement.
