Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s Head of the Government, Saadeddine Othmani, will unveil today Morocco’s plan to lift the “quarantine” for the post-May-20 period.

Othmani is set to lead discussions in a joint parliamentary session between the parliament’s two houses.

A number of governmental sources have confirmed that the government decided to extend the quarantine for an additional period, especially since relaxing the measures few days before Eid Al-Fitr may have dire consequences in terms of the spread of the virus.

Said sources said it is not possible to allow people to leave their homes before Eid al-Fitr.
The final decision has not been taken yet, but it is likely that the quarantine will be extended until the post Eid period.

It is expected that Othmani will announce the extension of the quarantine during the scheduled parliamentary session today, with a plan to relax the measures further for commerces and industries to avoid further economic losses.

The expected decision comes after the Ministry of Health recommended to keep the lockdown for 15 more days.

The Ministry of Health stressed the necessity of stabilizing the index (R0), rate of reproduction, pushing it below 1.0 for a period of at least two weeks.

The reproduction rate stood at 1.08 nationwide, according to figures from last Friday.

It continues to rise in cities like Casablanca, where it stood last Friday at 1.13.

In other regions, the R0 stands well-below the 1.0 mark.
