Essaouira, Morocco (TMT)- The Gnawa music festival, one of the most significant music events in Morocco, has announced the lineup for its 24th edition. The festival will be held in Essaouira, from June 22nd to June 24th, and will feature over 115 artists, including Bob Marley’s son.

According to the festival’s director, Naela Latasi, this edition is exceptional as it comes after the recognition of Gnawa music as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

She described this as a global acknowledgment of the festival’s efforts towards preserving and developing the heritage.

Among the big names attending the festival are Bob Marley’s son, who will perform his father’s repertoire, “Hoba Hoba Spirit,” “Gnawa Division,” and the Palestinian group “Trio Jubran.” Other artists include Saad Ben Shamsi, Farid Ghannam, Sanaa Marahati, Arabi Iamgrane, and Hamid El Kasri.

The festival promises to offer music lovers a series of exceptional concerts, including the opening ceremony, which will feature performances by the American saxophonist Jaleel Shaw, the band Borandi Amakaba, Sanaa Marahati, and Mohammed and Saeed Koyo.

The festival’s program also includes music mixing sessions, intimate Gnawa nights, and impromptu musical meetings, in addition to intellectual discussions.

The Gnawa music festival is undoubtedly an event that music enthusiasts in Morocco should not miss.
