A recent study by the High Commission for Planning in Morocco found a slight shift in gender preference for offspring gender among Moroccan women.

The study revealed that over half of the women showed no specific preference for the gender of their future children

Specific data indicated that 54.4% had no gender preference. 26.4% preferred females, and 19.2% preferred males.

These findings contrast with 1997 statistics when women favoring male children reached 26%.

The study suggests the shift in preference may be due to the advancement in women’s education, improved economic conditions, and evolving social roles between men and women.

However, the study also noted that generalizing preference is challenging as attitudes can vary based on regions, social and economic backgrounds, educational levels, and cultural customs.
