The Minister of National Education, Chakib Benmousa, revealed on Thursday a strategic roadmap devised by his ministry with the objective of expanding the instruction of the Amazigh language across primary schools. The goal is to reach approximately 4 million students by the year 2030.

Benmousa stated that, at present, “we have 1660 primary education establishments where the Amazigh language is imparted, engaging around 330,000 students.”

Looking to the future, he added, “Our ambition by 2030 is to extend to 12,000 institutions where the Amazigh language is a part of the curriculum, impacting four million students.”

He further highlighted that the government is committed to “elevating the number of specialized and bilingual educators, initiating this move starting from the upcoming academic season.”

In his official capacity, Benmousa stated that they have seen a significant rise in the number of teachers for the Amazigh language – from 200 to a current total of 400.

He stated that the ministry has a strategic plan to introduce 400 teachers every year.

He noted that preparations are underway to hire between 1500 and 2000 bilingual educators who will instruct in both the Amazigh and Arabic languages.
