Oussama Gharib won with Ittihad Tangier Morocco’s top-flight football league, Botola.

Oussama Gharib, the erstwhile captain of Ittihad Tangier and a prominent figure in Morocco’s Botola Pro league, was detained on June 2nd by security personnel at the Ibn Battuta Airport. The arrest follows a complaint lodged against him by his former club, Ittihad Tangier.

The grievance, as per sources close to the matter, alleges Gharib of receiving his due remuneration twice. He first received his rightful compensation from Ittihad Tangier and subsequently signed a discharge of liability. However, Gharib later drew an identical amount from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) after previously lodging a complaint against the club.

Despite efforts by Ittihad Tangier’s president to amicably resolve the situation, Gharib purportedly declined to refund the overdrawn amount, valued at around 200.000 USD. Consequently, the club escalated the matter legally, accusing Gharib of a breach of trust.

Post the lodged complaint, Gharib was transferred to a local detention facility in Tangier. The Public Prosecution in Tangier court further referred the case to an investigating judge for an in-depth probe.

Gharib was arrested upon his return from Turkey last Friday.
