Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, president of the Movement of Enterprises of France (Medef), has had his impending visit to Morocco, which was scheduled for June 26, postponed. The decision was made at the request of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), the most prominent business organization in Morocco that represents the interests of the private sector and employers.

The postponement of de Bézieux’s visit is directly linked to the ongoing diplomatic crisis between Morocco and France. The CGEM, currently headed by Chakib Alj, came to the conclusion that the existing political climate is not favorable for such an engagement.

Despite the change in schedule, Medef’s spokesperson, Fabrice Le Saché, has yet to provide any comments. In the past, however, Le Saché has been noted to downplay the influence of political situations on trade relations.

While de Bézieux is due to relinquish his role as president of Medef on July 6, he will continue in his role as president of the Alliance of Francophone Employers (APF). The CGEM holds a seat in the executive committee of the APF.

As per the existing schedule, the 2024 Meeting of Francophone Entrepreneurs, a crucial event coordinated by the APF, is still set to be hosted in Morocco.
