Four additional nations, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, and Benin, have officially joined the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, marking a significant advancement in the ambitious endeavor. The agreement was signed in a high-profile ceremony attended by key figures, including Amina Benkhadra from Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines and Mallam Mele Kyari, CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The pipeline project, set to connect 11 West African nations to Nigeria’s gas resources, is anticipated to transform the region’s energy landscape, providing gas supply to the entire region and creating a new export route to Europe. With a budget exceeding 25 billion dollars, the project has garnered financial interest from various countries and financial institutions.

This news comes on the heels of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s announcement of a 12.5 billion dollar investment for a 50% stake in the project earlier this year. The pipeline, once completed, is expected to be the world’s longest gas pipeline, spanning approximately 5,600 kilometers across Africa.
