Tomorrow’s Match Just a Friendly, Preparation for AFCON is Key, Says Morocco’s Coach Regragui

Morocco’s national football team coach, Walid Regragui, addressed fans’ expectations ahead of the game against South Africa, treating it as a friendly encounter since both teams are already qualified for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

Even at the risk of upsetting fans, Regragui stated he wouldn’t be troubled if the team loses all the upcoming friendly matches, including all games until the AFCON kick-off next January in Ivory Coast.

“Morocco has often been a favorite but fell short in previous AFCONs,” noted Regragui. He emphasized the focus should not be on immediate wins but on being prepared for the tournament, a philosophy that prioritizes long-term success over short-term victories.

“Wallah I don’t mind loosing all upcoming three games, the most important thing is to be ready for the upcoming African cup, not before, not after,” Regragui stressed.
