Urgent Calls to Accelerate Investigation into Fuel Distributors’ Price Collusion

The National Association of Road Transport Specialists in Morocco has once again appealed to the Competition Council to accelerate the investigation into the purported collusion among petroleum corporations regarding pricing.

This initial complaint, submitted in November 2016, highlights worries about the steep increase in fuel costs, notably after the removal of subsidies and the introduction of price liberalization.

The Association holds the view that this situation has had a lasting impact on the transport industry and the wider public for over six years, due to the lack of competition in the market and potential price collusion among fuel distributors.

Affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labor, the Association is pressing the Competition Council to deliver a verdict on this matter promptly to prevent additional harm.

They are also advocating for the introduction of retroactive measures to offset the damages experienced by professionals since the start of the price liberalization scheme.

The complaint was initiated six years prior, based on suspicions of anti-competitive behavior by fuel distributors, particularly after price liberalization was implemented on December 1, 2015.
