Former Port Officials Jailed for Corruption in Tangier and Other Moroccan Ports

The Primary Criminal Chamber in charge of financial crimes at the Rabat Court of Appeal sentenced former senior officials from the ports of Tangier, Kénitra, and El Jadida to imprisonment on Thursday. The charges are related to the embezzlement of public funds, and participation in falsifying public documents, among others.

The Criminal Chamber sentenced the head of maritime operations at the Port of Tangier to two years of imprisonment and a fine of 20,000 Moroccan dirhams.

Similarly, six other officials received sentences ranging from two years to one year of imprisonment.

These six officials include the former head of the commercial navigation department in Tetouan, the head of the maritime department at the Port of Kénitra, a retiree, a former maritime affairs bailiff, and a maritime fishing gear retailer.
