Morocco’s Competition Council has called for the establishment of a mechanism to periodically adjust electricity tariffs in a way that reflects the real cost of electricity used and protects the purchasing power of vulnerable Moroccans.

The Council emphasized the need to reconsider the current tariff system, stating that it does not accurately reflect the real cost of electricity used and is based on a mechanism of mutual support between different consumption sectors.

The Council stressed the importance of transparency and clear frameworks in setting prices to achieve market reform goals and promote efficient usage.

It proposed either implementing a social tariff structure or providing direct financial assistance to vulnerable groups.
