The Injunctions Court at Aïn Sebaâ in Casablanca has decided to postpone its consideration of the case of Hamid El Mahdaoui, journalist at the electronic newspaper “Al Badil” until the 6th of October, reports Alyaoum 24.

As a reminder, the Directorate General for National Security has filed a lawsuit against said journalist, calling for banning him from practicing journalism for 10 years and a fine of 250,000 dirhams after his article on the “killing” of the young “Karim Lechgar” in the city of Al Hoceima.

This first session was attended by a large number of lawyers, human rights activists and journalists.

The lawyer for the Directorate General for National Security has refused in his initial word the consideration of the trial as a trial of a journalist and wanted it to be considered as a felony, which was confronted by the journalist’s defense, adds the aforementioned source.

As a support to the journalist, several rights groups were present notably the Moroccan Association for Human Rights and the Regional Network for Solidarity and Human Rights in the Great Casablanca.
