Yesterday, the National Company of Morocco’s Highways (la Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc) and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development signed a loan agreement that amounts to 900 million dirhams to start building the prospective Safi-El Jadida highway.

According to Leconomiste, the amount given by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development represents only around 20% of the prospective total costs of the said highway.

The said amount is “the last chunk of the money needed for the financing of the highway,” the aforementioned outlet said.

The source went on further to add that the overall funding for the highway is now “complete” and that the construction works will start soon.

Leconomiste closed adding that “the highway is 140 km-long” and that it will cost a total amount of 4.8 billion dirhams.”

The highway will be ready to accommodate drivers by next year.
