Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Moroccan MP Malika Lehyan has expressed her concerns about the railroad of Asilah, a city that has immense potential for tourism but is not being fully utilized. The railroad, built before independence, to connect the region with other parts of the kingdom, is a huge architectural mistake as it is currently dividing the city into two parts, hindering its development and limiting its urban and architectural expansion.

Lehyan stressed that the current situation poses significant risks to drivers and pedestrians who cross the railroad, where many fatal accidents have occurred. As a result
Lehyan has requested the Minister of Transport Mohammed Abdeljalil to consider changing the course of the railway line to run parallel to the highway.

“This would not only improve safety but also allow for the full utilization of Asilah’s tourism potential,” Lehyan stressed.

Lehyan has also inquired about the timeline for this change and when it could be implemented.

“The proposed railway line alteration has the potential for significant economic growth and increased safety for residents and visitors, and could have a positive impact on the city of Asilah and its surrounding areas,” Lehyan noted.

“Asilah, a city rich in culture and history, has the potential to become a leading tourist destination in Morocco. However, the current state of the railroad sector is hindering its growth and limiting its potential,” Lehyan stressed.
