Morocco Busts Terrorist Cell in Laayoune

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s new investigation police department, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), an offshoot of Morocco’s domestic intelligence agency (DGST), busted a terrorist cell in the city of Laayoune, located in southern Morocco.

A statement in Arabic from Morocco’s Ministry of Interior said, in the waking of the nabbing, that “four members that have pledged allegiance to the terrorist organisation”, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, were arrested.

The statement noted further that “the said elements issued a “fatwa” [a ruling on a point of Islamic law given by a recognized authority] to burn alive any person they suspect of apostasy, even if he/she is a family member.”

The Ministry’s statement added that one of the members had close ties with an ISIS notorious leader.

The said element was taught to create artisanal bombs and explosive devices, and has even tested successfully the material locally, in a preparation step to carry out terrorist attacks against sensitive targets within the kingdom of Morocco, Morocco’s Ministry of Interior closed.
