Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s National Railway company (ONCF) released a promotional video about what will be Africa’s first operational high speed train (TGV), to shed light on the progress of the ongoing construction works related to the high speed rail line connecting Tangier to Casablanca.

In its explanatory video (check video underneath in French), ONCF said that the Tangier-Casablanca line will be finalized by the first half of 2018.

In the said video, explaining the reasons behind the delay, ONCF said that its works were delayed as engineers “have encountered many difficulties related to poor soil quality, strong winds, and seismic constraints.”

The ONCF further noted that the acquisition of 12 trains is planned for this project and that the first two trains have already been received this summer in Tangier Med.

“The trains will be tested on the normal speed line and then on the high speed one,” ONCF added.

Regarding the project progress, ONCF stressed that the “project is now 75% complete and that it will be operational by the first half of 2018.”
