Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Cadi Ayyad University student Omar Khalek passed away yesterday, few days following an assault he was subject to last Saturday afternoon nearby the faculty of literature and social sciences in said university.
Omar Khalek was a well-known Amazigh activist and a staunch supporter of Morocco’s integrity, which lead some separatists– described by friends of the late as students supporting the polisario front–to assault him, throwing rocks at him.
Following the assault, the young student was taken in expedition to a local hospital in Marrakesh, but unfortunately passed away yesterday after succumbing to “dangerous injuries.”
Abdellah Elhaloui, a well-known Moroccan Amazigh activist, mourned his death and hailed the late saying that “Omar was a very nice person, very shy to the point he can’t stare at you for more than 2 seconds without lowering his gaze.”
“The late was very respectful, a highly educated person and a staunch Amazigh activist. What a loss,” Elhaloui said.
