Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- According to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (well known under its French acronym OIF), an organization that aims to promote the French language and foster peace and sustainable development among French-speaking populations, a little over than 10.600.000 Moroccans speak French.

This number represents around 32% of Morocco’s total population.

The OIF says that from the aforementioned number, only 13.5% are fully francophone, while 19.5% are partially francophone.

Those numbers contrast the figures advanced by Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP) authorities in the last census of 2014, where it was estimated that a little over than 47% of Moroccans speak French, while around 18% speak English.

If we calculate the amplification rate to contrast the IOF figures and Morocco’s HCP ones, we estimate that only around 12.5% of Moroccans speak English.
