Morocco and Iran Hold First Official Meeting in Rabat

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-Few months following Morocco and Iran agreeing to resume diplomatic relations and Iran reopening its embassy in Rabat, after a four-year freeze period, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mrs. Mbarka Bouaida, held talks on Wednesday 06 April 2016 in Rabat, with the Iranian Deputy foreign minister, a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation read.

Bouaida stressed that this meeting was an opportunity to discuss the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of the opening of an Iranian embassy in Morocco last year.

Furthermore, the Minister Delegate stated that this meeting focused on political consultations between Morocco and Iran regarding important current issues, adding that she informed her Iranian counterpart of the role played by Morocco on several levels as well as the latest developments of the Moroccan Sahara issue.
