Tangier, Morocco (TMT)- A 78-year-old german citizen has recovered from the coronavirus in Tangier, Morocco after the administration of chloroquine.

The German citizen was admitted to the Mohammed VI hospital last week after showing coronavirus symptoms and subsequently testing positive.

The head of the Mohammed VI hospital, Dr. Mounir el Marrakshi, said that the German citizen “responded positively to treatment, without whatsoever side effects or complications.”

Two tests have been performed this week, both confirming that the patient has successfully recovered from the coronavirus.

It is worth reminding that Morocco has used since the start of the outbreak said drug to treat all coronavirus cases, with Dr. Mohamed Lyoubi, head of the epidemiology department at the Moroccan Ministry of Health, stressing that the decision to use the drug is “a sovereign one,” taken by the state after consultations with the Moroccan health authorities.

The main challenge in Morocco nevertheless is the very low testing capacity of the kingdom, with many cases getting admitted too late to hospitals.
