Just weeks before the beginning of Ramadan, a month where demand on goods and consumed products is at its peak, Moulay Hafid Elalamy signed a decision mandating officers of his department to enforce Consumer Protection Laws.

This decision as well as the personnel and organisational structure responsible of such task have been published in the Official Bulletin, meaning that fraud will no longer be reserved to the services of the Ministry of the Interior.

Services and special controllers are now allowed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, investment and the digital economy to stop violations. These police-like services have now the right to track, detect, identify and prove violations of the Consumer Protection law.

Officials in the decentralized services of Industry, Trade, investment and the digital economy can also perform these tasks provided they have a diploma that is equivalent to a level 9 in Public Services. The Ministry wants to go even further by creating more advances and specialized profiles.

However, there are strict criteria that the inspectors will have to meet, among them the perfect knowledge of the 31.08 law for Consumer Protection as well as all decrees of its application. They   will also be required to demonstrate good thorough knowledge of their area of control. It is also important to note that all officials carrying these functions will be sworn.
