Breaking News: Luis Suarez officially a Barcelona player

Luis Suarez is the new Barcelona signing for this summer after an agreement between the Catalans and Liverpool, reported the official website of FC Barcelona.

The Uruguayan will be traveling to Barcelona next week for a medical, to sign his five-year contract and to be officially presented to the media and fans as an FC Barcelona player.

Luis Suarez today issued the following statement to Liverpool’s official website

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

“But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

“I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

“I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I’m sure will be successful again next season.

“I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

The 27 years old player of the “Celeste” (Uruguayan national football team nickname), arrives from Liverpool, for an amount close to 75 million euros. Suarez becomes one of the most expensive transfers in the world of football. He is supposed to wear the jersey number 9 after Alexis Sanchez left for Arsenal.

Luis Suarez  is heading for the Camp Nou as holder of the Golden Boot after hitting 31 goals in the English Premier League for Liverpool last term.

His star shined while he was playing in Netherlands with the legendary Ajax Amsterdam. He has then moved to Merseyside (Liverpool) and played for three and a half years.

Suarez has always been known for his bad manners on the pitch. Actually he is currently banned from all football related activities by a FIFA decree, after biting the Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini, on Uruguay’s last group phase game, in the current World Cup in Brazil.

Those behaviors have made most Barcelona fans pretty skeptical about this transfer. However, the club’s officials think Suarez is the best candidate to fill in the empty attacking spot in the team as Barca is trying to get back on the rail and win some more titles the coming seasons.
