Morocco to Build an Additional 1800 Kms of Highways

While answering a question raised by Al Istiqlal party during a session of the Moroccan parliament, the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mr. Aziz Rabbah, announced that Morocco has a serious plan to create an additional 1,800 Kms of highways.

According to the minister, the plan will be finalized before the end of 2014. However, the date of the effective implementation of the project has not been announced yet.

The 1800 Kms of highways plan aims to strengthen the link between Agadir and the south region, as well as to improve road access to key economic cities of the country, especially the cities of Safi, Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Meknes, Fez, Tangier, Nador, and Guercif.

It is worth highlighting that currently Morocco has 1 511 Kms of highways, but the number is expected to reach 1,800 Kms by the horizon 2015.

The 1800 Kms plan unveiled by Mr. Rabbah will double Morocco’s highways capacity from 1800Kms to 3600Kms.
